How Do You Get to Ise-Shima from Osaka, Nagoya and Kyoto?
This guide is for visitors who want to reach Ise-Shima, the region of Ise Jingu and the Shima coast in Mie Prefecture, and who are starting from Osaka, Nagoya, Kyoto or an airport. It covers the Kintetsu Shimakaze limited express, the airport links to the Kintetsu line, and the buses from Iseshi Station to the two main shrines.
We used the English pages of Kintetsu Railway, Ise Jingu and the Visit Iseshima tourism organization. All pages were read on 2026-10-04. We name no hotels or restaurants. We quote no train fares or timetables, because we could not read a reliable table for your date.
The Shimakaze limited express
Kintetsu's English page says the sightseeing limited express Shimakaze connects the Ise-Shima region with Osaka, Kyoto and Nagoya. It says the train was created so that the ride is part of the trip. Its listed routes run from Osaka-Namba to Kashikojima, from Kintetsu-Nagoya to Ise-Shima, and from Kyoto to Kashikojima.
The page says the first car is a high-deck car with large front windows. It describes a cafe car on two floors, free Wi-Fi, lockers for large luggage and group seats with large tables for four to six people at no extra fee. It also describes Japanese-style and Western-style private rooms for three or four people. The page states an extra fee of 1,050 yen per room for either type.
The page also says the Shimakaze is not in service on Tuesdays as a rule. This matters if you plan a Tuesday trip, so check the service schedule on the Kintetsu page before you fix your date. The schedule tables on that page list many stops, including Ujiyamada and Iseshi on the way to Kashikojima.
From the airports
For Kansai International Airport, Kintetsu's page says you go first to Osaka-Namba. It says the Nankai Line limited express Rapi:t takes about 40 minutes from Kansai Airport Station to Namba Station and needs a limited express ticket as well as a regular ticket. From Namba you walk through an underground passage to Kintetsu's Osaka-Namba Station, and the page says the passage is often crowded.
For Chubu Centrair International Airport, the page says the Meitetsu limited express called mu-SKY takes about 30 minutes to Meitetsu Nagoya Station. It says the mu-SKY has first-class cars only, so you need a first-class ticket as well as a basic fare ticket. From Meitetsu Nagoya you leave by the west ticket gates, which it calls the easiest way to the Kintetsu line, and go down to Kintetsu-Nagoya Station on the first basement floor.
Kintetsu says a station concierge at Osaka-Namba, Kintetsu-Nara, Kyoto and Kintetsu-Nagoya can show you how to buy tickets. It adds that the stations with a concierge and the service hours can change.
From Iseshi Station to Geku and Naiku
Ise Jingu's own access page asks visitors to visit Geku first and then Naiku. It lists the Geku-Naiku loop line bus, Routes 51 and 55, and the Ise-Futami-Toba circular bus called the CAN Bus. It also lists the Ise City Tourist Information Office.
The Visit Iseshima page for Naiku says to get off at the bus stop called Naikumae. It says this is about 20 minutes from JR or Kintetsu Iseshi Station by the loop line bus. The page for the shopping streets near Naiku names a different stop, Jinkukaikanmae, which is on the same loop line. We did not read the bus fare or timetable, so check them locally.
Other routes the shrine lists
Ise Jingu's access page also groups routes by the airport you start from. For Chubu Centrair and Nagoya Komaki it lists Central Japan Railway and a high-speed boat or express bus. For Osaka Itami and Kansai it lists the Kita-Osaka Kyuko Line, Nankai Electric Railway and Central Japan Railway. For visitors who drive, it points to the Central Nippon Expressway. Each line links to the operator's own page, which is where fares and times are published.
What we could not verify, and therefore left out
- Train fares, limited express charges and today's timetable, which Kintetsu publishes separately.
- The cost of the Kintetsu rail pass and what it covers.
- Bus fares and frequencies on the loop line and the CAN Bus.
- Drive times and tolls by car.
